Juicy Fresh Juice, Juiced Fresh!

I love fresh, homemade juice! It is a great way to easily get some extra servings of your favourite plants, and it is absolutely delicious.

The juice I made today is very simple and the ingredients I have chosen were done so because they are inexpensive. I juiced a bag of carrots, a bag of Granny Smith apples, and a whole pineapple, that's it! It smells great and tastes even better.

We inherited a very old juicer from our parents about six months ago, and the thing is truly a champion. It rips through everything I've thrown at it. If you are looking for one, there are juicers available from all kinds of stores (grocery stores, health food stores, online, etc...) and the price can range from 50 bucks to basically as much money as you want to spend. I have also seen juicers being sold in garage sales for next to nothing (and hey, it might turn out to be a monster juicer like mine!).

An extra tip for when you are juicing; alternate the more difficult to juice veggies (carrots or kale) with juicy fruits, like apples. It will help to clear away the pulp from inside the juicer and prevent clogs and burning out the motor.

Be aware, juicing isn't the best way to get all the goodness from your fruits and vegetables. When you juice inevitably some of the vitamins and nutrients that are left behind in the skin and flesh. Also the pulp that is left behind is where all the fiber is! Juicing can be great and tasty way to get more into your diet, it isn't a complete alternative to munching on whole fruits and veggies.

Happy juicing!
